What are subdomains?

Subdomains are the extended part of a domain that arranges the various sections of the website collectively and helps in easy transverse and You’re working. The domain is the wider extension whereas the subdomain itself means a smaller component of the domain. These subdomains could be shared easily on different platforms such as social media pages, among the visitors, and to some targeted IP addresses.

The domain mainly comprises 2 parts :

1. TDL

TDL Stands for top-level domains. The top-level domain is that part of the domain that is placed at the end and begins with a dot for example.com, inc, .org, etc.

2. SLD

SLD Stands for second level domain. This part of the domain gives it a different identity and doesn’t make the domain identical to other domains. The second level of the domain is placed before the last dot of the domain.

Why do we create Subdomains?

Subdomains serve as an add-on to a registered domain name, allowing you to send visitors to a different web address, or allowing you to point to specific IP addresses or references in your hosting account. Typical use of a subdomain organizes or distributes website content into separate categories.

When to Use the Sub Domain over Sub Directory?

We use Subdomain instead Subdirectory in two scenarios

  1. Starting an e-commerce store to complement your main website.
  2. Setting up an existing company blog or business website.

These two scenarios have one thing in common: they both function as identical sites with a specific function. You can achieve the same results directly using subdirectories, but the benefits of SEO often make subdomains a better choice.

At this stage, it is important to note that there is a healthy debate on this issue. Many people prefer to use subdomains, while others say subdirectories are the best option, even considering SEO.

Basically, it’s about site management or we can say about Hierarchy.

Sub-domains appear before the domain name in the URL, such as blog.legitworkjobs.com, instead of the Subdirectory, which will look like this: legitworkjobs.com/blog.
